Hair loss, declining hair density and increasingly fine hair can have different causes. At Alpha Skin in Bonn-Bad Godesberg we offer modern, individually tailored treatment concepts to support hair health – based on many years of medical experience.
Treatment at Alpha Skin: PRP treatment in Bonn – price from €150 and appointment
One of them is PRP hair therapy using micro-injection technique. This article explains how it works, who it is suitable for, how a treatment proceeds and what you can realistically expect.
What is PRP?
PRP own-blood therapy (platelet-rich plasma) uses the body's own platelet-rich plasma, obtained from a small blood sample. It contains growth factors involved in biological regeneration processes. As the plasma comes from your own blood, it is generally well tolerated.
Precise PRP micro-injection technique
Using modern micro-injection technique, PRP is introduced in a targeted way into the scalp: with very fine needles, at small, even intervals and exactly where the hair is thinning. This brings the plasma to the level where the hair roots lie.
Studies suggest that PRP can improve hair density, particularly in hereditary (androgenetic) hair loss. However, the data are not consistent, and not everyone responds equally well. Individual treatment results can vary.
Who PRP hair therapy is suitable for
- Women and men with hereditary hair loss, especially in the early to middle stage
- thinning hair at the parting, at the temples or on the crown
- as a supplement to active ingredients applied to the scalp
PRP is less suitable for areas that have been bald for a long time, as hardly any active hair roots remain there. If hair loss is due to iron deficiency, a thyroid condition or medication, the cause is treated first. Patchy hair loss usually needs a different treatment.
Medical hair consultation: first the cause, then the treatment
Successful hair therapy begins with the right diagnosis. In our hair consultation we assess possible causes of the hair loss and discuss suitable treatment options.
This includes a detailed conversation about the course, pre-existing conditions, medication and hair loss in the family, as well as a close examination of the scalp and hair, often with magnification. Depending on the findings, blood values such as iron stores, thyroid values or vitamin D are determined.
How a PRP treatment works
- Blood draw: A small amount of blood is taken from a vein in the arm, similar to a blood test.
- Processing: In a centrifuge the platelet-rich plasma is separated from the other blood components.
- Preparation: The scalp is disinfected and, if you wish, cooled.
- Micro-injection: The plasma is introduced evenly into the affected areas with fine needles.
An appointment usually takes 45 to 60 minutes in total. Afterwards you can go about your day.
How many sessions make sense
PRP does not work overnight. Usually three to four sessions at intervals of four to six weeks are carried out, followed by a refresher once or twice a year depending on progress. Because hair grows slowly, an effect shows after about three months at the earliest; the result can usually be assessed after six months. Photos at the start help to compare progress objectively.
Individual hair programmes and supplementary LED technology
Depending on the cause of the hair loss we develop a personal treatment concept. In addition to PRP, selected scalp treatments and supplementary LED phototherapy can be considered.
The focus is on careful medical assessment, the choice of suitable procedures and an individually tailored treatment plan.
Side effects
After the treatment, redness, a feeling of tension or pressure and small bruises at the injection sites are common. The scalp can be sensitive for one to two days. Inflammation occurs rarely. On the day of treatment you should not wash your hair and should avoid sport and sauna.
When treatment is not carried out
Treatment is not carried out in cases of blood clotting disorders, a lack of platelets, acute infections, inflammation of the scalp and during pregnancy and breastfeeding. In cancer and when taking blood-thinning medication the physician clarifies beforehand whether treatment is an option.

Frequently asked questions
Does the treatment hurt? The needle pricks can be felt but are usually quite bearable with cooling.
When will I see a result? After about three months at the earliest, because hair grows slowly.
Can I colour my hair afterwards? Wait a few days until the injection sites have healed.
Does PRP also help men? Yes, PRP is used for hereditary hair loss in women and men.
How long does the result last? Hereditary hair loss progresses slowly. Refreshers once or twice a year are therefore usual to maintain what has been achieved.
Can I work straight afterwards? Yes. The scalp can be slightly red; this is usually hardly noticeable under the hair.
